Did you know that my room is so stuffy and hot that I can’t stand actually staying in my room. Phew…I wonder why.

VCF had a talk on finding the right life partner yesterday by Dr. Khoo. Quite good I must say, indeed it resonates a lot with what my parents have been advising on these matters.

Now the interesting thing he did mention was that ladies should act like ladies i.e. that ladies shouldn’t become ‘guy-chasers’.

Hmm…so what do you readers think?

Long time in coming

Update have been kinda irregular these days. The mind simply cannot do two things at once. Well, we did celebrate Joshua’s birthday today (midnight suprise). And apart from that, it was the usual routine for me. Wake up, eat (although I missed breakfast today), QT and start work.

Still searching for some inspiration for an interesting issue or topic to blog about.

Terms and technicalities…

Mokkies asked me..what’s a lemma. Well to satisfy you and to give my readers a little insight into mathematical mumbo jumbo (which it is not) I shall try to explain the what words “Theorem”, “Proposition”, ” Lemma” and “Corollary” means.

Theorem: All the four words above mean this: True assertions. Thus, in a way of speaking, theorem=proposition=lemma=corollary. But this does not mean they can be used interchangably. Confused?

Proposition: A theorem is used to state an interesting result, a major fact or (strong) assertion. It sets up the theme and direction of the discussion. In other words, Theorems are the big picture statements.
Propositions on the other hand are results that tend to be technical in nature. You can compare them to the nuts and bolts of the engine.
Lemma’s are vignettes. Small results proved on the way to make life easier (and possible). They are ‘little theorems’ so to speak; like the oil of the engine.
A corollary simply means a direct consequence. For example: The p-series diverges for s=1. A corrollary to that would be that there are infinitely many primes.

Boleh? Faham? Understand?

Lemma: All four of the above require proofs.

Corollary: If you see of such words and the space below them is blank, the perogative on you as the reader is to try to prove those assertions.

Perhaps the interesting question to test whether you have understood me is this.

Have I used the words properly when I boldfaced them as section headings?

The absence was unintentional. The past two days was filled with maths, BBQ housewarming and lots of sleep.

Sorry abt that.

We housewarmed Marie’s new place on Sunday evening. As usual I sorta gravitated towards the fire although it was John who did most of the cooking, I helped him out. Had a great time there with plenty of (burnt) good food.

Other than that, it was either mathematics or sleep. Enjoyed some KOTOR for a little while during the spaces.

I need divine inspiration…

Lemma

I’ve just realized that if I am really serious on embarking on a professional mathematical career, I had better start to learn to defend my ideas and learn from mistakes other people point out, no matter how pendantic or trivial it may seem.

Creative ideas don’t appear out of thin air. It usually is chiselled from a rough cut of wrong concepts and mistaken assumptions. Criticism is its chisel, the resulting product is robust-able to withstand the rigors of time and tide.

I guess the higher level I go I can’t just get by saying, ” It is already understood lar…” The devil is in the (technical) details.

Breathtaking…

It just takes my breath away.

You’re in Singapore now. The food sucks, but in other respects, you kinda enjoy the freedom, friends and conveniences. Would you go back to Malaysia?

10 things that irritate me…

I’m actually doing tutorials right now, but in between bursts of inspiration…

1) Smudges on the lenses of my specs. My eyesight isn’t that good. Finger prints makes it worse still.

2) My handphone alarm. Means that I have to wake up early, urgh…

3) Unanswered SMSes. I find it inconsiderate.

4) People selling tickets/promoting stuff at my room door.

5) People who can’t sing, but still sing. Okay, I can’t sing that well, but I never force ppl to listen to me sing.

6) Unflushed toilets. That’s just plain disgusting.

7) Being late for appointments. Come on lar, can’t we be on time?
Computer lock up. I’m impatient, that’s why.

9) Pendantic comments. This is in the context of presenting a maths solution. It is the ideas that count, not the notation and stuff like that…ish…can’t stand such things.

10) Not being able to solve a (maths) problem. PROBLEMS ARE MEANT TO BE SOLVED, that’s why.
