Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

captainsparrow.jpg

That’s a nice shot all the principal players in the action flick. That’s what it is through and through. Bar the convoluted plot, the humour and action should be more than enough to satisfy fans of this series.

In my opinion, the movie belonged to Kiera. I actually teared a little during the scene where she met her (dead) father. Undeniably, her charisma filled every scene she was in-even the ones involving Johnny Depp, who was sorely missed. And she is the protagonist. You cannot but help look at her. The other actors were like backdrop. Hardly noticeable.

Did I say Johnny Depp was missed?

Yeah, poor Johnny must have been locked up in Davy Jones Locker for far too long. No he wasn’t funny; I don’t think he even tried to be funny-or charismatic. Just the slightly gay, confused and….lost pirate he was in the second installment.  And Orlando Bloom is just a poster boy for the movie. Let me be frank, the guy can’t act. Period.

So concludes the Pirate Saga. This one had lots of potential, but suffered from horrible pacing and too-large-a-plot. 3.5/5

Manchester Utd is not coming after all

Man U dump Malaysia match

Kuala Lumpur – Premier League champions Manchester United on Thursday bowed to pressure from the Asian Football Confederation and called off their planned match in Malaysia in July.

Ah, well so sad (depending on whether you are a MU fanatic or not). The AFC wins after all. I guess not even the combined power of KJ , his father-in-law  and the Azalina could persuade the AFC to change their mind.

It all started with this surprise announcement. Which let to a lot of anguish by local fans who wrote into the papers and led to a decision by FAM to go on with it.

I think you know this got them into trouble with the AFC. And boy did AFC retaliate.

I don’t know how you all feel about this whole fiasco, but personally (because I’m not a football fanatic):

This is an example of the problem European clubs face. One of overpacked league schedules. I’m sure MU wanted to come here. But they are not gonna to come in the middle of their season right? So they choose to come in July, just before the new EPL season starts which, unfortunately, clashes with the Asian Cup.

It’s kinda sad because the club will tour the other countries like Japan and South Korea. Maybe if you’re up to it, fly to Macau to see them instead.

What I find kinda strange is the whole ‘tourism’ thingy. Come on-lah, MU coming here is more a treat for local fans that a steroid boost into the countries tourism earnings. I seriously doubt that one football club, (no matter how big and well known they are) can draw the legions from overseas Tengku Mansor is talking about. I know they are a lot of other Malaysians who support other clubs as well.

Now the interesting thing is to see, that after fighting so hard to negotiate with the AFC, will the government back FAM when AFC brings legal actions against them?

Have you heard of Friedbeef.com?

I have 15 minutes to type this out and go to the loo before I start work. Thank God it’s Friday. Probably heading off to Jurong Point to catch Pirates. So you can expect a review later at night.

Anyway, got this cool Firefox extension from Friedbeef.com.

Download-them-all  will, and I mean WILL, speed up your downloads (jpegs, mp3s, movies, etc) by almost 1000%!

Like the other day, was downloading a song, and the in built download manager in Firefox downloads at a average speed of 15 KB/sec. (Horribly underutilizing the 100MBs plan we signed up for).  But Download-them-all sped it up to 153 KB/sec.

Will come back to edit this post with screenshots to prove it.
