I was talking to Andrew the other time and he mentioned something about the increased cost of living in Malaysia.
He gave me this example,” Nowadays, you can’t get a lunch for less than RM 3. A normal plate of Zhap Fan now costs RM3.50. But in Singapore you still can get a meal for like $2.50. (I might add that in NUS, a decent bowl of Wan Tan Mien is only $1.80). So if you’re earning RM3000 in Malaysia and compare it with someone who is earning $3000. You’re actually spend more on food in Malaysia.”
And then I read that the weekend edition of theStar is being raised to RM1.50. Last time when I was still a kid, theStar only cost 80 cents, then it went up to a ringgit and then to RM 1.20.
I also found out something else. June pointed this out to me: The price of electricity in Singapore is tied to the current price of crude oil around the world. But I don’t think there is such a thing in Malaysia. The tariff is fixed by the government and it is raised accordingly.
Interesting comparisons between the two countries.
