Movies and more movies, donkey!

In the movies, this year seems to be the year of adaptations. Especially, fantasy or works of imaginative fancy. For instance Stardust, based on the work of Neil Gaiman.

Then there is another adaptation of Katherine Paterson’s Bridge to Terabithia.

Not forgetting Shrek the Thrid which although not an adaptation per se, is a sort of continuation of what was ad adaptation of Shrek! written by William Steig.

Personally I am not aquainted with all three authors and movies like these have made me want to read their works. It’s a good exposure. See how Lord of the Rings entered everybody’s vocabulary after Peter Jackson.

I have an unverified theory. Seems that the current blandness of movies nowadays may be caused by the monstrous budget and managerial needs. I mean, if you have to constantly worry about monetary constaints and HR problems, pure creativity is compromised.

And a quote by Michael Runino during one of the episodes of Made to Order: “Creativity is free.” just shows how important for creativity to remain unfettered by such concerns.
